The word segregation itself refers to the act and effect of separating , marginalizing, or separating something from a specific thing or person. If we refer to people, segregation usually occurs for cultural or political reasons . The term is widely used to refer to one of the most important problems that grows every day in society.

Types of segregation

Racial segregation

Racial segregation is the separation , either by law or through action , of people of different ethnicities in all kinds of daily activities , such as education, housing, and the use of public facilities. Although it is no longer considered acceptable in most countries, racial segregation still exists in many communities and occurs through the individual actions of its members. It can occur even when members of different ethnicities prefer to associate and do business with each other. However, as the world moves towards the understanding that all people belong to the same human family , such practices have become less prevalent, and a growing number of communities have broken down the barriers that divide the races. Most modern societies no longer practice it and are officially against it .

Social

Urban social segregation is the result of the different groupings that occur within the different social strata of a given population in different residential areas. It has negative effects mainly on the general population and not only on certain specific groups. It is a type of segregation that is widely practiced in the modern world and cities, and its causes are merely the result of industrialization and the economy .

Urban

Segregation Urban is considered as a combination of different social and geographic that can occur within a specific population or territory, is a way to separate a given population because of their characteristics social, economic and ethnic. These differences include aspects such as infrastructure, housing, medical care, types of commerce, food and education. It is considered as a discriminatory and racist action by a community that wants to separate from it a certain group of people that they consider different or inferior.

Occupational

This type of segregation consists of the excessive concentration of women in some jobs and of men in different ones. This is mainly due to the stereotype that exists about gender and the possibility of professional development regardless of gender in different areas and activities. The women are the most affected as get less employment opportunities and few options when choosing a career . Between the stereotypes that affect female work, we can mention the shorter work trajectory than that of men, the preference for part-time hours and the low availability that some of them have to work overtime or comply with long hours.

Gender segregation

Gender segregation is the same as talking about sexual segregation . The society and culture traditional are largely responsible for determining the roles and relationships between the sexes, which, so generally , are great inequalities and asymmetry in the act and power, a greater amount against women. It also happens in cases of gender changes, people with different lifestyles in the sexual sphere and in those who fail to fit into the basic profiles of society.

Of functions

The segregation of functions are methods used by companies and organizations to adequately separate the different types of functions and activities that take place within companies. It is a control mechanism to avoid material losses, deficiencies and internal problems. At the same time, it helps entrepreneurs to locate possible sources of fraud, errors, irregularities within the company and at the same time, it gives them the protection they need for proper business operation.

Farm segregations

It is the act by means of which an original farm is separated into one or more pieces of land, in such a way that it forms an independent farm within it. To carry out a segregation of farms it is necessary for a technician to carry out a subdivision or segregation project, in which he will study the farm, perform a series of measurements and calculations, placing all these results on a plan .

• Discrimination racial : often people are discriminated against because of their color , the skin , the natives, blacks, Muslims, they are all easy targets of racist attacks. The minorities that exist in society are usually victims of discrimination and segregation, even physical violence .
• Labor discrimination : Men have a greater capacity in the labor field to obtain important and better paid positions than women , which causes unemployment in a part of the population. Young people, for example, are taken into account to a lesser extent and this causes them to have to look for jobs in things that are not part of their professional career.
• Social segregation : People with physical disabilities are one of the most affected groups in this field. It is difficult for them to enter the labor field because the owners of companies that apply inclusion processes are very few.
