What is the numerator?

Before knowing what the numerator is, you must know what the fractional or broken number is. A fractional or broken number within mathematics is one that expresses one or more  equal parts within the unit. A broken or fraction consists of two numerical parts called the  numerator and denominator . The  numerator   is the one that indicates the parts that are taken and the  denominator is the one that indicates how many parts the whole or unit has been divided into . This translates as follows: In the following fraction 2/4  the denominator 4 who indicates that the whole has been divided into four equal parts while the numerator 2 is the one that indicates that two parts of those four have been taken.

The numerator , together with the denominator , helps to form the fractions , being one of the fundamental supports of mathematics . It helps to know exactly how to separate an element into several parts in equal ways.

One of the most important characteristics that numerators have are their names. These are:

  • If the unit is divided into two equal parts this will be called  media .
  • If the unit is divided into three equal parts this will be called  thirds .
  • If the unit is divided into four equal parts, it will be called  rooms .
  • If the unit is divided into five equal parts this will be called  fifths .
  • If the unit is divided into six equal parts this will be called   sixth .
  • If the unit is divided into seven equal parts this will be called   seventh .
  • If the unit is divided into eight equal parts this will be called  eighths .
  • If the unit is divided into nine equal parts it will be called   ninth .
  • If the unit is divided into  ten equal parts, these parts are called  tenths .
  • If the unit is divided into eleven or more equal parts to the name of the number, simply add the ending  avo .

    • If the unit is divided into  fifteen equal parts these parts are called fifteenths .

“A” can formulate any integer or zero, for example 0, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, …

In the case of ” ” this  will fulfill the task of counting how many ” integers “, means , thirds , fourths , fifths , ” sixths , sevenths and so on, which will be found at the top where we will have rational number or fraction. That is why it will be called the  Numerator .

In the case of “b” it  personifies the  number of parts into which the Whole is divided, the Unit . That is why it is called the  Denominator , because it establishes what we are talking about.

  • sheet is separated into five parts and three pieces are distributed .
  • cupcake is separated into twenty equal parts and all the pieces are taken .
  • pizza is divided into thirty-three equal parts and 25 pieces are taken .
  • 1/2 = part of an apple = parts the apple was divided into; where 1 is the numerator and 2 is the denominator.
  • 3/5 = parts of a sheet = parts the sheet was divided into where 3 is the numerator and 5 is the denominator.
  • 20/20 = parts of cupcake = parts the cupcake was divided into where 20 is the numerator and 20 is the denominator.
  • 25/33 = Parts of pizza = Parts into which the pizza was divided; where 25 is the numerator and 33 is the denominator.
