In meteorology, the hygrometer is commonly used , since it is capable of quantifying the humidity in atmospheric air or any other gas. This is used to carry out its measurement through sensors that were initially of a mechanical type and that over the years, has been in constant evolution until it is a sophisticated instrument.

The  first hygrometer was  born from the ingenious mind of the French physicist  Guillaume Amontons . He presented it in  1687  to the Académie des Sciences . After that, he continued his research and published articles and documents on friction and thermometry .

Who invented it

The first hygrometer was created by the French physicist Guillaume Amontons born in Paris on August 31, 1663. He was a physicist and inventor who contributed a great advance to meteorology and the different fields of thermometry as well as the author of his book: ” Remarques et experiences physiques sur la construction d’une nouvelle clepsydre, sur les barometees, les thermometres et les hygrometres ” , from the year 1695.

What is it for

It serves to measure or quantify the degree of humidity in the air, soil and plants, as well as the recognition of the different gaseous states of matter.
