The epistemology is a branch of philosophy that is responsible for studying the knowledge of being human in general, this means that focuses solely on the knowledge , where it comes from that knowledge and the impact it has on the life of each one of the people, because they all own it. The word is derived from the Greek words ” gnosis ” and ” logos “, whose meanings are knowledge and faculty of knowing respectively. The word then comes from ancient Greece, a place that was the cradle of philosophy and the different kinds of knowledge related to knowledge.

What is gnoseology?

It is the part of philosophy that aims to study human knowledge , where it originates , the possible scope it has and its nature . It is the faculty of knowing that people have and it could be said that it is the general theory of knowledge.

What gnoseology studies

This science is in charge of studying the origin of knowledge , its nature , the place where it comes from, its essence and all the limits it may have when acquiring knowledge. It focuses from its beginnings on studying and elucidating the problems and situations that make up existence , reason and communication . Many people see it as a theory of knowledge that seeks to reflect the relationships that exist between the person and the object to be known. Study the way in which the human being and hismind generates the concepts for a given object or action. For gnoseology, knowledge is its most important point and gives it a series of characteristics such as: it is objective because it cannot be modified, it is verifiable because everything that is known is because it has already been previously verified, it is necessary because we need the knowledge to live properly and is universal because regardless of ethnicity, language or personality there will always be knowledge in human beings.

One of its main characteristics is that it is compatible with the scientific method .

  • It is responsible for studying the different types of knowledge that can be achieved by man and how they are based .
  • It is identified with the definition of epistemology .
  • It is reflected in the concordance that occurs between the individual and things .
  • Its main objective is to reach reasoning and meditate on the essence of nature .
  • It seeks to find the possible limitations that affect knowledge and knowledge.
  • It has three different types of knowledge, the propositional , the direct and the practical .
  • It tries to determine the way in which things are conceived by man, culture and religiosity.
  • Interests and freedom play an important role when seeking to understand human knowledge.

Gnoseology questions

There are many questions that gnoseology is formulated mainly to define knowledge . It focuses on questions like: what is knowledge? Where does this knowledge come from? Is there the possibility of acquiring knowledge? Is there a possibility of knowing something? What is the best method to obtain knowledge?

Legal gnoseology

It is a branch of general philosophy that is responsible for studying knowledge, but only in the legal field , this means, knowledge in law . His ability to study is then limited to the law . According to legal gnoseology there are three different types of knowledge that are:

  • The empirical or vulgar knowledge : it has the least degree of knowledge and is carried out by means of a simple capture of reality through the senses. In this phase, man evolves his physical growth and gains knowledge little by little.
  • Scientific or rational knowledge : it exceeds empirical knowledge and its main source is the intellect and reason . Its source is knowledge or reason and begins when the individual goes to school and ends when he graduates from university.
  • Philosophical knowledge : this is considered the highest degree of knowledge and intellect of man.

Knowledge has two forms: ordinary and scientific . From this point of view we can mention as examples of ordinary knowledge knowing how to swim, subtract, multiply, drive a car, know how to cook. Scientific knowledge for its part complies with organized and systematized ideas and we can mention as examples the laws that govern nature and society.

Difference between epistemology and gnoseology

The difference that exists between the two sciences, although they are very similar since the two mean theories of knowledge and this is their main theme. The difference lies in that gnoseología gives definitions based on the philosophical critique and epistemology so from the viewpoint scientist . For gnoseology, knowledge occurs between the relationship between the individual and the object, resulting in knowledge. The epistemology focuses on critical reflection on the construction of various scientific theories with the facts and phenomena that are trying to explain.
