Ava Lavina Gardner was born on December 24, 1922 in the town of Grabtown located in North Carolina. Her mother went by the name Mary Elizabeth and her father was Jonas Bailey Gardner . She was born on a tobacco plantation, where she learned to use the language of the land and walk barefoot, a completely rural area. When she was 18 years old, her brother-in-law had taken a photo of her next to a window in his photographic studio located in New York and this photograph caught the attention of MGM , managing to take it very quickly to Hollywood and signing a contract to make a film based in its beauty. I did not have any experience inActing and her first 17 movie roles were single-line. Shortly after her first starring role in the 1946 film Stop Signal, MGM loaned her to Universal to make their first film known as Outlaws , in which she played an exceptional role.

Gardner befriended businessman and pilot Howard Hughes in the early and mid-1940s, and the relationship lasted until the 1950s. She stated in her autobiography, Ava: My Story , that she was never in love with Hughes, but was in it. and out of his life for about 20 years. Hughes’s trust in Ava Gardner was what kept their relationship alive. She described him as “painfully shy , completely enigmatic and more eccentric … than anyone she had ever met . “

He lived a passionate life in Spain , a lover of bulls and bullfighters , alcohol and parties were part of his daily routine. In Spain he shot the film “ Pandora and the Flying Dutchman ”. What most attracted him to the place were the Spanish men and for this reason he had a long list of lovers. He got to know Spain for work reasons because he came to the place to shoot a movie in 1950 and his first love arose from the script he was playing. In Pandora there was a person with the role of bullfighter which was played by Mario Cabré , who was a real-life matador, poet and actor. He dedicated himself to making Ava fall in love and he succeeded. After that first contact, she decided to stay to live in Spain, fleeing her past relationship with Frank Sinatra.

Death

Ava Gardner spent her last years locked up in her London apartment . His only companions were his housekeeper Carmen Vargas and his beloved Welsh Corgi, Morgan . Two strokes she suffered in 1986 left her partially paralyzed and bedridden. Although Gardner could easily pay for her medical expenses, Frank Sinatra wanted to pay for her to visit a specialist in the United States , and she allowed him to make arrangements to be able to travel on a private plane with medical personnel. Her last words were to her housekeeper: ” I’m so tired, “ before she died ofpneumonia at 67 years. Her housekeeper took it upon herself to bring Ava’s body to her native North Carolina for her private burial.
